| and moves into 2 place overall in a tight race for the overall Champion System FBF leaders jersey for the season!
by David Sommerville
This weekly event in Brooklyn draws a tough selection of riders every week from current and former world and national champions, the fastest guys in the area looking for a hard workout and has over the years hosted just about every big time Pro rider in attendance at one time or another. You never know who will show up each week but you are assured tough challenging racing on the old airfields of Brooklyn due to stiff winds, hard racing and rough road surface.
The Champion System team started attending this event in midseason after missing out on the first few events due to our travel schedule but since our full squads arrived we have been dominating the races.
A controlled effort chase by Sommerville, Bencivengo, Flaherty and Friedman of an early lap break containing the series leader but not Bunde to within 15 seconds. Once it was close Jared jumped across with several other riders. Once Jared was in the lead group, which also contained the leader jersey wearer but no other favorites, the race went round and round and ended with a breakaway sprint.
Jared won the sprint handily but the series leader placed 2nd behind him. This narrows the gap to the overall and puts Jared into 2nd in the series and Champion System team should be 2nd in the series in the team standings. Tom Bencivengo, covering a last lap attack from the field, took 8th on the day with Sommerville, Flaherty and Friedman finishing up in the top 15 as that’s all there was left of the numerous starters!
The series standing for individual riders with 4 races left and the last event is double points are as follows:
Rider Team Points
Jermain Burrows WS United 33 Points
Jared Bunde Champion System 27 points
Jason Bremer GS Mengoni 25 points
Considering Jared flatted out of a break 4 weeks ago and we missed the first few races due to our travel schedule our comeback from the lower rankings is gathering steam and we hope to win the series!
